Have you ever went to have a shave only then to realise instead of having a nice dry Shaving Brush to produce a luxurious lather with, you’re left with something wet, clumpy and generally unpleasant? If you answered yes then perhaps it’s time you invested in a Shaving Brush Stand.

When buying your kit you may have overlooked a stand for your Shaving Brush, but think about it – you have paid anywhere from £10 – £100+ for your favourite Brush, so why not take good care of it?

Shaving Brush “Drip” Stands always hold the brush upside down, allowing gravity to do it’s work and “drip” the brush dry. What this does is it allows your brush to dry thoroughly and properly, leaving you with no nasty surprises when you next come to shave. Doing this means you will prolong the life of your Brush, getting your moneys worth!

Here at the Safety Razor Company we have recently widened the range of Shaving Brush Drip Stands we supply, so we’re sure we’ll have one to suit you and your kit. For under £5 you can’t go wrong, considering it may provide your Shaving Brush a few years extra service.

Today I was looking through our website and got curious about the differences between different types of Styptics and the much newer contender, Healing Gels. I think the problem people may have with switching between the two is that they do not know much, if anything, about Healing Gels and have been using Styptics for too long that they are well any truly settled in their ways.

I know personally I would not like the idea of applying a gel to my face on a nick or cut. The very mention of the word gel makes me think of something sticky and quite frankly a sticky gel would be very unpleasant to have to deal with if I still had Shaving Cream applied and was only half way through Shaving. I imagine this to be the reason for most people sticking with Styptics, a nice dry solution.

When I’ve dug a little deeper however, Healing Gels start to seem more and more appealing… and let me tell you just why I think that is.

To start with is the aspect I was most dubious about. Applying a gel when I still had shaving cream on my face seemed a little silly to me, like I’ve said above I imagined it to be sticky and get in the way of the rest of my shave. This however, is pleasantly not the case.

Using Proraso’s Healing Gel as an example, the application only requires a tiny amount to close any small nick, and what’s wonderful is that it isn’t sticky as you might imagine. What it also means is that you can continue shaving after it’s applied, just allowing the gel to work it’s magic. This is in contrast to using a Styptic Pencil or Match where you have to use your hand to press against your face until bleeding stops.

The other aspect I really like about Healing Gels is the price. Costing roughly twice what a set of Styptic Matches would, they are guaranteed to last a lot longer than quite a few sets of matches, considering that matches should only hygienically be used with one application per match.

So I’m convinced, I think I’ll be using Healing Gels from now on. It also does solve the annoying problem of coming to find Styptic Match heads somehow mysteriously snapped off from the match itself, making it very hard to use!

If you would like to try out Proraso’s Healing Gel like me, I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised. Of course if you do need any Styptics we have them too but why not give something new a try!

But what about when it comes to buying a gift for the Man in your life?

To be honest myself and I’m assuming a lot of men probably aren’t too fussed about getting something on Valentine’s Day, but wouldn’t it be nice to go out of the way and get something wonderfully different for him rather than the go-to box of Chocolates from the supermarket?

Well perhaps the answer lies with a Shavette Razor.

Shavettes are made by a wide range of manufacturers including Proraso and we also have some own brand models here at The Safety Razor Company.

These handy little Razors provide an easy introduction into Striaght Razor shaving but without any of the effort. With a Straight Razor you have to strop and hone to keep the quality up, but what more and more people are doing now is purchasing and getting used to a Shavette first, and then only when they feel comfortable using one – to buy their first Straight, feeling safe in the knowledge they have prepared as best they can.

You can use a Shavette with any Single Edge Blade or even a Double Edge Blade snapped in half. I would suggest to use both methods to find out which you prefer before buying blades to practice with.

If you wish to purchase a Shavette Razor just take a look at the Shavette Section on our website. If you wish to know more simply Contact Us.

We have had a great first year with this new business venture. Made some new friends in the Shaving industry and although I would have liked to be further into our plan I have to say that I’m quite satisfied to be where we are today.

The picture above was taken at the end of Movember. It was a last minute decision to join a local group of guys to form a team called the Brothers of Boldon. It was also about 30 years since I last sported a “blacker and more bushier” Moustache, needed primarily to make me look old enough to get served in pubs. We raised about £600 and hopefully we will come back next year with a bigger team and a more concerted effort.

I am proud to say that we also start the year being short-listed in a local Dragons Den Business Accelerators competition, pitching against a lady called Gill Beard. Local story headline read Bathroom Queen battles Shaving King. Reckon its going to be a pretty close shave for someone. Winner gets some local advertising and the opportunity to go through to the next round.

Will keep you all posted.

If the answer is yes and you have had a baby boy within the last year or even the last few – then listen to this.

It is not uncommon for someone to seek a birth year vintage razor to either use in their weekly rotation or simply to keep as a collectable or as something to pass down through the family.

It is becoming more and more popular however, to purchase a Safety Razor when you have a new baby boy, and then give it to them as a present for their 18th or 21st birthday. Typically it would be a gift from the father – as a kind of “welcome to manhood”, but would still be an equally lovely and unique gift from a mother or any other relative for that matter.

The reasoning behind posting about this came from reading an article on a shaving forum which was between new dad’s who had been discussing which Safety Razor to buy for their child. In the end it seemed that quite a few had settled with the Merkur Progress Safety Razor.

Their reason for doing so was not primarily based upon the quality of the Safety Razor (Although we have to say it’s a very high quality model!) but more of the gesture associated with the name of the model – the “Progress”. The Idea behind giving this as a gift when their baby boy turns 18, about the progress he has made through life – what a lovely idea.

If there are any new dads out there reading this why not do the same and purchase a Merkur Progress Safety Razor today.

For those of you who know about Proraso, and we hope you do, their one of our favourite Shaving Cream manufacturers! You will know that they have been around for a good while now, since the 1930′s in fact. During this time they have built up an unparalleled reputation as the top name in Shaving Cream.

Now of course Proraso always suited their classic green image (see above photo) but let’s be honest and say that the new packaging looks very original and stylish. Its refreshing that a brand which has been around so long can revamp themselves and come out with such a modern and stylish look – still clearly leading the competition.

We have recently acquired three variations of Proraso Shaving Cream which bear the new look; the original, with Eucalyptus Oil & Menthol, as well as the Sandalwood Oil & Shea Butter and Aloe & Vitamin E varieties.

To get your hands on these fantastic products (Which are sometimes referred to simply as Proraso Green, Red or Blue) just visit our online shop at www.safetyrazors.co.uk. You can also view the rest of our Proraso Range here too, just in case you want some Aftershave Cream to go along with your new Shaving Cream!

When looking for a new or perhaps your first Safety Razor, you want to make sure that you are getting a quality reliable product. Often people go Vintage simply because they trust the quality of shave they will receive will be first class. Maybe they are in the mind set “they don’t make them like that any more” but is this always the case?

More and more people are turning (back) to a Safety Razor to re-capture the reliability that they offer and take it from us, the quality is there in modern Safety Razors, but you just need to know where to look.

I suppose it’s hard to say that a certain brand makes quality Safety Razors, as each model varies from the next, but we have found that our customers seem to enjoy buying Merkur and Parker when it comes to modern Safety Razors. The issue here is that some people may not be willing to pay as much for their first Safety Razor, as if they don’t enjoy the experience it will be money wasted almost, unless they can find a friend who is willing to accept it.

We here at the Safety Razor Company understand this and have released our own, affordable, quality range of Safety Razors which you can buy from as little as £9.85 + delivery. So far these have proved to be a quick mover, but that’s no surprise when you could get a new Open Comb, Heavy Duty or Butterfly Safety Razor for considerably less than the big names, whilst still getting the same quality.

For £9.85, what have you got to lose?
